FAQ
Q: Why isn't my Test Card working?
A: It is critical that you place your test card as close as possible to the detector on your geiger counter. Even at a distance of 2" away, readings can drop off dramatically. Please consult your Geiger Counter manufacturer for the location of internal probes if using a self-contained Geiger Counter. Unless you have a time machine, it is physically impossible for a test card to output no radiation.
Q: How do I store my Test Card?
A: You may keep your Test Card in a thick plastic container for long-term storage. Lead is not strictly necessary. Do NOT keep your Test Card in your pocket, nightstand, office desk, or any area that will be close to your body for extended periods of time.
Q: Why can't I use my Test Card for calibration?
A: Each test card is made from Naturally Occuring Radioactive Material (NORM). NORM will always contain a mixture of different isotopes, each with varying degrees of intensity and composition. To single out an isotope would require extensive analysis and chemical processes that would drive the price of each card well above $100.
Q: How long is my Test Card good for?
A: Uranium has a half life of 4.5 billion years, so your test card will be active & valid for the remainder of your lifetime.
Q: Will my Civil Defense meter work?
A: That depends. Test Cards will work with the common yellow CDV-700 Geiger Counter, however they will not work with survey meters such as the CDV-715 or CDV-717. Survey Meters are intended only for detecting lethal amounts of radiation after a nuclear incident. If you see the needle moving on a Survey Meter, run.
Q: Do you provide custom labeling?
A: Yes! We're happy to accomodate your company name, email, and phone number on test cards (minimum purchase 100 units). Please email your inquiry to our customer service department for a free quote.
