In foods and beverages, Glycerol serves as a humectant, solvent and sweetener. In medical and pharmaceutical applications, it is mainly used as a means of improving smoothness and providing lubrication. Glycerol is a primary component of Glycerin soap. It's also used to produce the explosive Nitroglycerin.
