Potassium Perchlorate is a common oxidizer and is one of the most important oxidizers used in fireworks. It is the main component in various flash powder compositions, stars, and sparklers. Although it is used as an oxidizer in solid rocket propellants, it has mostly been replaced by Ammonium Perchlorate. Potassium Perchlorate was once used to treat thyroid disorders in people with Graves Disease. Potassium perchlorate is still used today to test for thyroid hormone production.
