Ammonium Nitrate
chemical formula: NH4NO3
( Prills )
Ammonium Nitrate is an oxidizer that is commonly used as a fertilizer, various chemical processes, as well as a component in rocket propellants and explosives. It is also used in 'cold packs' and for demos of endothermic (heat absorbing) reactions. When water is added to a quantity of Ammonium Nitrate, the temperature of the solution drops rapidly below freezing.
It needs to be kept in a tightly closed container,
it has a bad habit of absorbing moisture from the air and forming into a solid block.
