Boric Acid
chemical formula: H3BO3
( powder )
Boric Acid is a mild acid
used as an antiseptic, insecticide, flame retardant, and in nuclear power
plants, to control the fission rate of Uranium. In the jewelry industry, boric acid is used in combination with denatured
alcohol to reduce surface oxidation from forming on metals during annealing and soldering operations. In pyrotechnics, it is added to formulas that
contain both a Nitrates and Aluminum to prevent unwanted reactions that can lead to spontaneous combustion.
