Sodium Salicylate
chemical formula: NaC7H5O3
( powder )
Not to be confused with Sodium Silicate (aka: Water Glass), Sodium Salicylate is a sodium salt of salicylic acid. It is used in medicine as an analgesic and antipyretic. It also acts as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), and can induce apoptosis in cancer cells and also necrosis. It is also a potential replacement for aspirin for people sensitive to it.
Sodium Salicylate may also be used as a phosphor for the detection of vacuum ultraviolet radiation and electrons. In pyrotechnics, it is mixed with Potassium Perchlorate to make Whistle Mix, used in firework whistles and whistle rockets.
