Potassium Permanganate is a common oxidizer most often used to treat & disinfect water. It is also known for its use in a spontaneous combustion experiment. If one places a few drops of Glycerin on a small pile of Potassium Permanganate, the pile will burst into flames in a short time. Solutions of Potassium Permanganate are a deep purple in color and the material stains virtually any organic material.
