Red Iron Oxide is often used as a coating in magnetic audio and computer media as well as magnetic data stripes, like those on credit cards. It is also known as 'Rouge'. In pyrotechnics, Red Iron Oxide is used as both a catalyst and high temperature oxidizer. It's found in whistle rocket mixtures, Thermite compositions, and several specialized pyrotechnic formulas.
