Uranium Dioxide (also known as Uranium [IV] Oxide) is an oxide of the metal element Uranium. The jet black material occurs naturally and is known as the minerals Pitchblende and Uraninite. It is mildly radioactive and primarily emits Alpha and Beta radiation. Historically, Uranium Dioxide was used to produce unique colors in ceramic glazes as well as various types of glass. Like most heavy metals, Uranium Dioxide is chemically toxic. Inhalation of any dust particles can be hazardous.
Caution: Use normal safety precautions (wear a filter mask/respirator and gloves) when working with Uranium Dioxide. Accidental inhalation or ingestion of Uranium Dioxide dust particles can be dangerous. The material is a known powerful carcinogen if inhaled. Note: adult signature required upon delivery.
