Dextrin
chemical formula: C6H10O5
( fine powder )
Dextrin is used as a water soluble glue, as a thickening agent in food processing, and as a binding agent in pharmaceuticals. In pyrotechnics, it is added to colored fire formulas, allowing them to solidify as pellets or "Stars". Typically 5% to 7% (by weight) of Dextrin is added to colored fire formulas allowing them to be pressed, rolled, or cut into Stars.
Drying problems begin to occur in Stars when the Dextrin content exceeds 10%.
