2-Propanol is pure Isopropyl Alcohol. Isopropyl Alcohol or 'Rubbing Alcohol' found in grocery and drug stores contains water which can interfere with many chemical processes. 2-Propanol is often used in Cloud Chambers to produce a fine fog making nuclear particle tracks visible. Using the Drug Store variety Isopropyl Alcohol in Cloud Chambers is generally the reason they fail to operate and produce visible tracks. Stick with pure Ethyl Alcohol or 2-Propanol for Cloud Chamber use. 2-Propanol also finds use in pyrotechnics when using Alcohol soluble binders such as Red Gum.
