Chromium
Oxide
chemical
formula: Cr2O3
( fine powder )
Chromium
Oxide can be made into pure elemental Chromium metal through a thermite
reaction by mixing it with twice its weight in granular Aluminum
and igniting. It requires a very high
temperature (over 3,000 °F) to start the reaction.
A small amount of burning Thermite, or other high temperature pyrotechnic
mixture will generally succeed in getting it started. Aside from its
pyrotechnic uses, it is also used as a paint pigment and in ceramic glazes.
