Sodium Salicylate is a sodium salt of salicylic acid. In pyrotechnics, it is mixed with Potassium Perchlorate to make Whistle Mix, used in firework whistles and whistle rockets.
In medicine it is used as an analgesic and antipyretic. Sodium Salicylate also acts as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), and induces apoptosis and necrosis in cancer cells.
It is also a potential replacement for aspirin for people sensitive to it.
