It's generally a good idea to change the oil in vacuum pumps once in a while to maintain high vacuum levels. The oil traps and contains contaminants impurities in the air it evacuates as well as water vapor. Eventually the water & contaminants build up and prevent the pump from reaching its ultimate vacuum.
