Uranium Dioxide

Uranium Dioxide
chemical formula: UO2
( powder )
Uranium Dioxide is a naturally occurring mineral, known as Uraninite or Pitchblende. Uraninite is a more crystalline form of the material where Pitchblende is more bulbous. A well known nuclear reactor fuel, Uranium Dioxide was chosen in early reactors because of the high melting temperature of Uranium Oxide as compared to pure Uranium metal. It also finds use as a semiconductor having advantages over Silicon as well as Gallium Arsenide. Uranium Dioxide is mildly radioactive and primarily emits Alpha and Beta radiation. Like other Uranium compounds, Uranium Dioxide was used to produce unique colors in ceramic glazes until being banned for use as such. It produces a green or black color when fired in a reducing atmosphere and yellow to orange (such as in Fiestaware) when fired in an oxidizing atmosphere. Like most heavy metals, Uranium Dioxide is chemically toxic. Inhalation of any dust particles can be hazardous. Ideal for collectors of those experimenting with Uranium compounds. Comes as shown above, small vial packed in standard chemical bottle.
NOTE: This is made from NATURAL Uranium, it is NOT depleted.
Vial contains 1 gram of Uranium Dioxide.
Caution: Use normal laboratory safety precautions when working with Uranium Dioxide. Inhalation or ingestion of the dust particles may be harmful. Note: adult signature required upon delivery.
